After many years visiting the markets, street stalls and knowing many women and men who used to cook in restaurants and private houses, I understood how difficult it is for many of them to retire when they reach certain age. In México we don’t have proper retirement plans for independent workers, savings are difficult to have when you live paycheck by paycheck and working conditions are terrible, many people work exhausting hours well into their 70´s.
I came up with this idea because I think they can have a better future, making good money, working in a good environment where they are respected and treated fairly. This is a way for them to semi- retiree or to start to think how to retire working only 4 hours now and then, but making the same money they made at their 12 hours shifts 6 ways a week jobs.
For me it’s more than providing a better life for them, is also a way to preserve their culinary crafts and amazing recipes and to create a space where this knowledge can be shared, preserved and appreciated. I believe that this world can be a better place if we start talking and sharing with other generations in an environment set for learning, listening and opening our minds and hearts. This is the result of many years of research and work.
The lessons are different every Saturday, due the nature of our teachers we can’t count on them for a fix working schedule, but we assure you every lesson would be invaluable and beautiful, You’ll learn, share, eat and leave with a full belly and a happy heart.
